What Is Truth?

38 “What is truth?” Pilate asked

Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Jn 18:38)

I guess most of us aren’t surprised by Pilate’s comment which came in response to –

37 Pilate said, “So you are a king?”
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”

Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Jn 18:37)

In general, the worldly approach to truth is relativism. In other words what anyone feels is truth is their own truth and everyone has their own truth and that there is no absolute truth. As a believer, of course you realize this another lie similar to the one told in the Garden of Eden.

The Man and Woman Sin
The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”
2 “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. 3 “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’ ”
4 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. 5 “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”
6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Ge 3:1–7)

Ultimately, there is absolute truth and it comes from the Creator of both the universe, and including the creation of humanity. Thank God He gave us the Holy Bible which has been preserved with total accuracy down through the centuries. Also, thank God He sent us His Word in the flesh, Jesus, His one and only begotten Son. Now we have the absolute and unchangeable truth, it is in both the written or recorded form and in the personhood of Jesus.

One thing I have found interesting over the years, is how humans want to make God into their own image. In other words, people love to think God agrees with their opinions and feelings. Rather than accepting that God has given us His accurate way because our opinions and feelings are contaminated by sin, which every living human being has. The bloodline of mankind inherited sin through the bloodline of Adam and Eve.

In this blog, I will be commenting in small bite sizes with expository Biblical truth, how it has impacted me over the past years, what it says to me today, what it may say to you, and what it may be saying to all of us about future possibilities.

Very Good Word Larry! In this day it seems that most people rely on what they feel is the truth instead of God’s Truth. Revelation knowledge from the Spirit, acknowledging and hearing God’s voice in line with His written Word.

God created man in his own image and likeness. As you rightly say , there is tendency to reverse this and create God in our own likeness. And so God becomes god as we end up worshipping ourselves. It is known in the Bible as idolatry!
