To Do or Not To Do

Proverbs 18:9

One who is slack in his work, is brother to one who destroys.

The New International Version (Pr 18:9). (2011). Zondervan.

Sometimes I feel like leaving it to someone else to become God’s spokesperson. Sometimes I’m concerned that if I act upon what I sense God is saying to me, I might embarrass myself or God. Sometimes I’m intimidated by the way the world tends to view things and think I will possibly be rebuffed or cancelled. Do you remember how Moses reacted when God called him to be His spokesman and to become a leader of the Children of Israel? Here is a portion of Moses comment…

But Moses protested again, “What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? What if they say, ‘The Lord never appeared to you’?”

Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Ex 4:1). Tyndale House Publishers.

Often we are very concerned about doing something that would displease God, but we don’t seem to have the same level of concern about leaving something undone. When growing up in the 1940’s I was assigned chores by my parents; fill the kerosene can for heating stove, carry out the garbage, go pickup block of ice for refrigerator, etc. I knew if I neglected these chores I would be in trouble. God assigns us chores. Do you know which chores God has assigned you? If not why not? We seem to go through Christian life trying to be good. God never called us to be good instead He provided our goodness through Christ, God has a call on each one of our lives to live for Him. Do you remember the story in judges about Deborah, it’s in Judges 5 and you may want to read up on it. From the The Song of Deborah…in Judges 5…

‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of the LORD.
‘Curse its people bitterly,
because they did not come to help the LORD,
to help the LORD against the mighty.’

The New International Version (Jdg 5:23). (2011). Zondervan.

Dear friends, in life there is no neutrality. We live in the midst of conflict between good and evil. If we are standing on the sidelines and aren’t in the battle helping God against the enemy, then by our neutrality we are aiding the enemy against God!

Jesus said in Matthew 12…

Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.

Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Mt 12:30). Tyndale House Publishers.

You see, my abstaining from doing what God has asked me to do is a victory for the enemy. There is a principle in human life; constructive work is progress. Jesus said “I need to be about my Father’s business.” What about you, are you currently about our Father’s business?
