When I started out to become a Christian, I was convinced that Jesus Christ is who He says He is and who the Bible says He is. I was also convinced in my mind that I had to change my ways of life in order to please God and to be acceptable to Him. Of course, I have since learned that trying to please God through personal effort is futile and downright impossible. The issue is, will I surrender my life to Christ and allow Him to enter in and become my life. God does it all, I just have to yield.
In the same way, I’ve learned that becoming a Christian isn’t a onetime event. The Bible instructs us to grow and mature in our Christian faith.
10 You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you.New Century Version (Col 3:10).
To follow Christ, in reality, requires me giving up my intuitive self-leading way and allow the Holy Spirit to direct my steps. There is effort and discipline required but that effort is spending time with Jesus in prayer, through the Bible and with the aid of the Holy Spirit, learning and receiving God’s direction for my life or for the current situation I may be facing.
Are you still going on with Jesus? Are you getting to know Him personally or is He some mystical iconic or religious figure in your eyes? When you have Jesus within, you now have eternal life. God has made the offer, have you accepted allowing Him to lead your life?
We all show the Lord’s glory, and we are being changed to be like him. This change in us brings ever greater glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.New Century Version (2 Co 3:18).
