Do these things, you will never fall away

10 So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away. 11 Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:10-11 NLT

The Apostle Peter writing says; “Do these things, and you will never fall away.” (2 Peter 1:10b). What things is Peter speaking of?

Firstly, and MOST importantly, God has called us to enter into a vibrant personal relationship with Him, which is available only, through Christ Jesus. (verse 3, By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him…) Please notice this doesn’t say to know about Him, but rather to know Him.

It has taken me many years, many foolish trials, much suffering, brokenness, missteps, and even, unfortunately, bringing pain to others, before being awakened to appropriate discipleship in following Christ. This discipleship is what has opened my understanding of what it means to have an intimate relationship with God.

4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

2 Peter 1:4 NLT

(Verse 4…escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.) We have the potential to, and frequently are, corrupted by this world we live in and it’s seducing lures to slip back from following our Lord Jesus. We are attracted by worldly fame and fortune which is an extremely strong temptation towards being drawn back into its grasp and therefore stop following Jesus and His ways.

For significant benefit, please take time on your own to read verse 8-11 for a more complete context of the things Peter is speaking of, such as: moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, patient endurance, godliness, brotherly affection and love for everyone. Those that fail to remember what they have been saved from, and do not develop as a true Christian, are short-sighted and forgetful. This is a condition of near-sightedness rather than blindness. Such a person sees the things of time and fails to see eternity! They see the material things but fail to see the spiritual.

It was Peter who said to Jesus, when asked by Jesus, if he, Peter, was going to leave Jesus like some of the other disciples had, “why, who else could I turn to no one else has the words of eternal life”.

The SO WHAT here is to honestly answer the question, am I growing in my relationship with Jesus? We are urged in the scriptures to grow in our faith and as a spiritual being. We do that by staying in a vibrant living and growing relationship with Christ so that the Holy Spirit indwells us. My dear reader, are you going on in Jesus, growing up into full maturity? Although I have been steadily walking with Jesus for these past 33 years, I still have so much more spiritual growing up to do. I’m looking forward to as many of you that will, to come alongside me through this blog and as “Iron sharpens iron” we will go on together into spiritual maturity. Thanks for reading and participating on this blog post.

      Larry,
I am reminded that 1st Corinthians 6: 9-11 puts it out there as to who the Lord will welcome into His Kingdom. lt is such a pleasure to be with you in Spirit and in Truth.
      Blessings,
      Stan
